Formerly of the house music duo The Sound Republic, Chicago’s John Mörk has found his way back to electronic music through some strange twists and turns. Currently riding a wave of newfound inspiration, he has embraced his synthier influences and is steadily working in the studio to explore them. It’s purely a labor of love. Enjoy!

Apart What/Where was your very first DJ gig, and how old were you?
Mörk Man, I’m not exactly sure! It was definitely a house party in college, and I was probably 19.

Apart Which artists had the greatest impact on your decision to pursue being a DJ?
Mörk Mark Farina changed my life in the 90s. His sound was a rallying point! He was such a huge influence on me.

Apart Describe ‘your sound’ in three words?
Mörk Deep. Dirty. Disco. Do I get points for my use of alliteration there?

Apart What are your top favorite 3 clubs (or cities) that you have performed at?
Mörk I love Neo in Chicago where we do Nü for sheer grimyness, SmartBar of course, and King King in LA is a lot of fun!

Apart What’s one place/club that you haven’t DJ’ed at yet, that you really want to?
Mörk I’m certain I haven’t played nearly enough tropical paradises. Yea, so more of those. Also, outer space.

Apart When you are traveling, what are three items you absolutely can’t live without?
Mörk Helmet, Spacesuit, and Oxygen.

Apart Do you have any of your own productions out? If so on what labels?
Mörk Lots as TSR! As Mörk I’ve got a remix coming on Seasons & a bunch of other fun/exciting things (to me) in the works!

Apart Can u name a track that we can expect to hear next Friday in Milwaukee?
Mörk I will almost certainly play my remix of @SHUTEYEMUSIC‘s “Going Away”

Apart What is your favorite thing about Milwaukee?
Mörk My family lives there. Also, it’s a pretty awesome town and most people outside of the area are unaware. I love it!
